Legend Theatrical played a crucial role in assembly, and initial testing of the lights.
View a live feed of the lights!
Successful completion of the project required more than a couple of guys with patience and steady hands. We formed a makeshift assembly line in our warehouse specifically for this project. Power distribution and networking was integrated into a large panel and waterproof box provided by Transdyn, and shipped to our warehouse 6 pallets at a time. Our job was to integrate Philips Color Kinetics, eW Flex SLX, LED Node Lighting system, and perform thorough initial testing. More specifically, wiring the LEDs to the provided Philips PDS (power-data supply), and sealing to protect from the not-so-electronics-friendly environment surrounding the Bay Bridge. We also tested and verified function of all lights and IP addresses, as the entire system is network based. Once finished, we shipped out a nice shrink-wrapped and ready to install package for the electricians on the Bay Bridge. Last night they were officially unveiled. Check out the pictures below! Video

Legend Theatrical donated labor and gear for the BBQ and dance fundraiser in Boulder Creek, CA. The fundraiser helps to provide Boulder Creek Fire Department with new equipment to protect the homes and people of the community. The Homemade BBQ and full bar was a recipe for good times, along with a live band and dance floor. This event was a win-win for proud local supporters, who had the opportunity to give back, and have a great time.
Space behind the firehouse was limited but used well. Truss canopied the Steeldeck stage and dance floor in the back of the lot. Every inch was used to our advantage. We outfitted the truss with an arsenal of lights including; our new SGM P-5 wash lights and Philips Color Kinetics ColorBlaze TRXs. Control came from a raised booth that held our soundboard and Jands Vista T2 lighting console. Two QSC KLA line arrays reduced conversation to a minimum, while strobe and laser effects amplified guitar solos. Anybody could walk on stage and feel like a rock star.
When the moving heads stopped and the haze from the foggers cleared, the cheers from the crowd reinforced the feeling of accomplishment. Overall the event was very successful. It was great to see such support from the community and to help the men and women who keep them safe. We can’t wait to do it again!

Most of our work took place in the 22,000 sq. ft. ballroom, though there was an art room where we installed 4 lighting trees with PARs to illuminate the art work, and a Dealer’s room where we provided power to the various dealer’s booths.
Load In for the event took 2 days, 4 box trucks, a pickup and a work van. In the Ballroom we provided 64 10′ sticks of truss that were hoisted by 20 1/2 ton chain motors to support the lights in two “T” shapes. We also used truss to support and illuminate large FurCon banners. We provided, in total, 77 conventional lights, 87 color-changing LED fixtures, and 10 moving lights. Lighting coverage included the banners, the dance floor, and the stage. The stage was relatively large utilizing 22 Steeldeck at 44′ w x 16′ d surrounded by railing, drapes, skirting, and included two sets of stairs. Next to the stage was a 9′ x 12′ projection screen which displayed I-MAG (video reinforcement) of on stage performances as well as pre-produced video play back relative to the performance. Audio was covered by 4 sets of line arrays; 8 Meyers M1Ds and 8 QSCs KLA12s, and 4 sets of Meyer and QSC subwoofers. We also constructed a 2-level A/V control booth in the back of house where sound was controlled from our Allen and Heath GL-3300 soundboard, and lighting was wirelessly controlled over 3 dmx universes from our Jands Vista T2 lighting console.
Though any experience for us is generally an enjoyable experience, this was especially exciting. While working in the San Jose Convention Center is always a unique experience, the rush of creating an event this diverse within the allowed timeframe and constructing it right is incomparable. We also enjoyed all the great people we met and worked with including members and staff of Further Confusion, IATSE, and the Teamsters. We are already planning for an even bigger and better FurCon 2014!

O’NEILL COLDWATER CLASSIC

O’Neill Coldwater Classic is back again at Steamer Lane in Santa Cruz, CA for event 9 of 10 in ASP’s World Championship Tour. Legend Theatrical is tasked with creating two large structures to accomodate Judges, Surfers, ASP staff, Announcers, and an O’Neill retail shop.
The judging and Surfer area is a two story building that stands 64′ x 48′ wide and 26′ high overlooking Steamer Lane from a parking lot on West Cliff Drive . Built mainly out of 12″ truss, the building sits on 48 Steeldeck staging platforms that clear a sidewalk and other obstacles requiring lots of labor and perfectionism. 88 pieces of truss were used in total for the two story building which was tied down by 4 1 ton cement blocks. In order to build a second floor, more Steeldeck is used and customized to clear the 12″ truss and give a clean, flush looking fit on the outside. The exterior is lined with 4,160 Sq. Ft. of custom made banners advertising O’Neill and other event sponsors. Stairs and railing are used throughout the structure for safety and accessibility. The roof of the structure is sloped which is achieved by using hinged truss. The retail store is built on the same concept, just on a smaller scale.

MEYER CONSTELLATION SYSTEM AT VALLEY CHRISTIAN

Meyer Sound News : Meyer Sound Constellation Makes Practice Perfect at Valley Christian Schoolshttp://www.meyersound.com/news/2012/valley_christian_schools/
Earlier this year Legend Theatrical completed a great installation of a Meyer Constellation Sound System at Valley Christian’s Conservatory!
“I started with Constellation off, and when I turned it on I could see the students’ eyes just come alive. When we talked afterward, a trumpet player in the back row said, ‘I could never hear the flutes before, but now I can really hear them.’”
