La Fanciulla

La Fanciulla was part of the 17th Annual Mendocino Music Festival. Legend provided the scenic and lighting design for this production. Legend constructed the set in it's shop in Santa Cruz and kept the Mendocino production team updated using it's secure login area to upload progress pictures of the construction process.

We chose to incorporate the supertitle screen into the set design so that it was not a distracting piece, but could be read while still watching the action. This was the first time supertitles had been successfully accomplished at the Festival. The response was overwhelming and one critic proclaimed "The design of the supertitles was so ingenious you actually forgot you were reading and felt as though you could speak Italian."

The set had many limitations such as space, additional shows on the same stage, and tight load in times. We successfully navigated all of these obstacles and had a very successful run with praise of the crew all around.

The Lighting design of the show was under incredible time constraints and the entire show, with automated fixtures included, had to be reset every performance due to half the rig being refocused for other events during the festival. Legend supplied a supplementary lighting rig, but often that too needed readjusting. The final cueing of the show happened the day of performance. However, when the curtain went up everything looked great and the production team was very pleased with the outcome.
